Review - On The Way To Us by Kandi Steiner

I was lucky. Like boy, was I ever lucky. I got an ARC of this and it took me a day and a half to finish it because, let's face it, I did have to work or I'd have done this book in one sitting. Like... Seriously.

The first thing I want to mention is the author note that I loved and consider so important. Since I'm a firm believer in non-spoiling book-reviews I cannot say why, but Kandi Steiner, seriously, thank you.
For making that note.
For writing that book.

Blurb:

What makes you happy?
That was the question Emery Reed asked me the day we met, and I couldn’t give him a single answer. I could have said my dog, or my books, or yoga — but I just stared.
And then, I got in his car.
It was crazy to take a road trip with a stranger, but after years of standing still, he was my one-way ticket to a new life, and I wasn’t going to miss it.
We shared the same space, the same car, the same hotel room — and still, we were strangers. One day we’d be laughing, the next, we wouldn’t speak. Emery was surrounded by impenetrable walls, but I wanted in.
Discovering his journal changed everything.
I read his thoughts, words not meant for anyone’s eyes, and the more I learned about him, the harder I fell. It turned out nothing made Emery Reed happy, and I wanted to change that.
I earned his trust by violating his privacy, and as wrong as it was, it worked — until one entry revealed a darkness I never knew existed, a timer I never knew was ticking.
Suddenly, what made me happy was saving Emery from himself. I just didn’t know if I could.

And now, on to my review:

With Emery and his Lucky Penny (aka Cooper) you have two broken people who form a whole. During the book, even the moment the first meet, it's almost as if they already complete then. He's searching for company, she's searching for an escape.
And neither knows it's what they are doing until they start their journey together.

Kandi Steiner has a way of writing books that make you pause every now and then because of the sheer magnitude of influence her books have on you. May it be a scene so well described, you can see the view as the mains do, or a moment so perfectly captured, your heart cracks with the sorrow everyone's feeling.

That woman is a pro on playing your emotions like a guitar string. She knows how to make you hurt and beg and cry and hurt some more and yet keep writing. I wish I could say exactly what caused me to feel all of this, but you'll have to read the book by yourself. I cannot do that for you.

This ARC showed me again where I want to be with my writing one day, why I have so much troubles getting into other people's books. Kandi Steiner's writing style and characters are just so well-rounded, lovable and perfectly imperfect.

God, I loved them. The paperback is mine as soon as it's out.

Thanks, girl, for letting me part of your world by letting me read that book.

Until next time,

Sam
