Seventh Grave and No Body (Charley Davidson #7) by Darynda Jones

HELLO ALL! Sarah here, and I have to thank the girls Julie and Yvi for being so welcoming and allowing me to post some reviews on their amazing blog! And a special THANK YOU to Julie for helping me with my first ever post! I'm new at this so ya'll bear with me!

So without further ado, here is my review for the newest book in Darynda Jones' Grim Reaper series featuring the HOT book boyfriend, REYES FARROW!

SYNOPSIS:

Twelve. Twelve of the deadliest beasts ever forged in the fires of hell have escaped onto our plane, and they want nothing more than to rip out the jugular of Charley Davidson and serve her lifeless, mangled body to Satan for dinner. So there’s that. But Charley has more on her plate than a mob of testy hellhounds. For one thing, her father has disappeared, and the more she retraces his last steps, the more she learns he was conducting an investigation of his own, one that has Charley questioning everything she’s ever known about him. Add to that an ex-BFF who is haunting her night and day, a rash of suicides that has authorities baffled, and a drop-dead sexy fiancĂ© who has attracted the attentions of a local celebrity, and Charley is not having the best week of her life.
A tad north of hell, a hop, skip, and a jump past the realm of eternity, is a little place called Earth, and Charley Davidson, grim reaper extraordinaire, is determined to do everything in her power to protect it.
We’re doomed.

Review:

HOLY SNAP. This series just keeps getting better and better! As usual, Ms. Jones continues to blow my mind and outdo herself with each book. Things have been heating up the last couple books but this ending had so many beautiful and devastating moments. Its safe to say I want the next one NOW!

*minor spoilers*

Things I enjoyed:

Ok. So I have the print version which apparently had an excerpt from Reyes' POV. Love those. And while this was cool, I admit I don't know who the spy is even though we have his name. Have we seen him in this book? My memory is just a bit hazy on that. But needless to say, it was a very cool bonus in the book.

Charley and Reyes make huge leaps in this book and I was soooo happy because I didn't want 5 books of them being engaged. I also don't want 5 books of her being pregnant, but as things seem to be moving rather quickly now, I'm less afraid of that than I was before. They are truly a team now and I only hope Charley starts treating Reyes better, but more on that in a sec. Bottom line is, I loved that we took a step forward and that we will be getting a change of scenery in the next book. I LOVED the idea of moving to sacred ground, it changes things up and keeps things fresh.

So.... OSH GOSH! I really liked him from the moment we met him in 'Sixth Grave' but I totally fell in love with him here. He seems to genuinely want to help and I trust him completely. I am so intrigued by the connection he seems to have with Beep. At first glance, it may just be about him wanting to keep her safe so she can fulfill her destiny and defeat Satan, but I think Reyes and Charley know there's something more going on here. I don't know if it will be of a romantic nature, but I think he and her are tied together somehow.. either soulmates or something more to do with that prophecy of the 13th.. no idea. But I can't wait to find out because I love the dynamic he has with Reyes and it will be interesting to see how Reyes handles Osh having any kind of connection to his daughter!

One last thing I really loved was that the mystery here all tied into Reyes' past and I thought it was very creative and made a lot of sense. At first I was thinking it was just another case that had nothing to do with anything, so I'm glad we're moving away from that. At this point in the series, there's no time to waste on her PI business and kooky ghosts anymore. Things are moving full steam ahead and so I loved that this case was anything but random.. HOWEVER, I hope this is the end of the threat of Reyes going back in jail.. cuz that would just suck. lol.

What I didn't like:

Not a huge list, but the one major gripe is Charley and her keeping things from Reyes! Can she just be done with the sneaking around and not telling him things that pertain to him??? I was so happy when he told her off because she needed to hear it. This is not just about her anymore, there is Beep to consider and hello? HELL HOUNDS. So he was absolutely right; she is risking everything for the wrong reasons and has to learn to prioritize a bit. Especially now. So I REALLY hope she has learned from this and we see some growth in the future. She has gotten better, but she has to keep it up for Beep's sake! hehe.

So, in conclusion, this latest installment was never dull and I can NOT wait for the next!!
