The end of a great series - Allegiant

Veronica Roth has been on the top of the book charts with every book of this series. So no wonder everyone was dying to read the last chapter to this amazing ride. This review will contain spoilers to people that have not yet read the books before this one.

Synopsis: The faction-based society that Tris Prior once believed in is shattered—fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal. So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she’s known, Tris is ready. Perhaps beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties, and painful memories.

But Tris’s new reality is even more alarming than the one she left behind. Old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless. Explosive new truths change the hearts of those she loves. And once again, Tris must battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature—and of herself—while facing impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love.

“There are so many ways to be brave in this world. Sometimes bravery involves laying down your life for something bigger than yourself, or for someone else. Sometimes it involves giving up everything you have ever known, or everyone you have ever loved, for the sake of something greater.

But sometimes it doesn't.Sometimes it is nothing more than gritting your teeth through pain, and the work of every day, the slow walk toward a better life. That is the sort of bravery I must have now.”

Before starting the book, I had heard a few things about the last book from blogs I read or just simply at Goodreads. So when I heard that a lot of people weren't fully happy with the book, I have to admit that I was worried. I still wanted to read it badly and so I did.

“I fell in love with him. But I don't just stay with him by default as if there's no one else available to me. I stay with him because I choose to, every day that I wake up, every day that we fight or lie to each other or disappoint each other. I choose him over and over again, and he chooses me.”

Story: I loved the story, I really did! Seeing and reading about the outside world was exciting and exhilarating, but in the end the outside world was just as dangerous as the inside of their own experiment. Tris and Four both realized that the outside world might not hold all the answers, or if they do, they don't just give them up willingly. Caught between the people that hold the truth and the people that might want to keep the truth to themselves, they need to search themselves to figure out just who to trust. And this is where a bit of confusion comes in. Sometimes it felt that there were too many sides fighting against one another. You have the two sides in their old world and then you have two sides on the outside fighting against one another. Maybe, just maybe, with limited fighting parties the story would've been more straightforward.

“We are not people who touch each other carelessly; every point of contact between us feels important, a rush of energy and relief.”
Allegiant - Veronica Roth

I love the characters in this series though. Tris is a person you have to admire, no matter what. She's brave, full of energy, has the heart in the right place and would risk her life over and over again for the people she loves. Four completes here, shows her what it means to trust someone completely and how to let go and let someone else take care of you for once as well. They are the best when together, and over the course of this book their relationship is tested more than once, but in the end, all that matters is that they have each other. And watching that is a beautiful thing.

Dual POV: I didnt read a lot of information on the book, so I had completely missed the fact that this book was going to be in dual POV. So when the POV changed, I completely missed it. Both voices were kinda similar, so I didn't realize the change until Four talked about Tris. With a dual POV, you gotta make sure that make both voices stand out and be different. They seemed to be kinda similar, which is why you needed to pay attention to the change in POV at the beginning of the chapters. But hey, I still loved it nonetheless. Seeing Four have his own voice was really nice, I just wished it would've been a little more distinct.

“I belong to the people I love, and they belong to me- they, and the love and loyaty I give them, form my identity far more than any word or group ever could.”
Allegiant - Veronica Roth

The End: Now I'm of course not gonna tell you how it ends. I can tell you though that the end is the reason why I'm not giving this book a 5-star-rating. Now I know why certain things have to happen in a last book and I also have a lot of understanding for that, but this one thing I didn't understand. And that just made a big part of this story kind of senseless. It sounds harsh, but it felt like it. So while part of me understands the reasoning, the bigger part in me just doesn't see any sense in ending the book the way it did. And it doesn't have anything to do with the romantic side of me either or the part that loves happy ending, it's just the way I feel overall. I really wish the ending would've been different.

Overall, I still love that series a whole lot and will definitely reread as well! Simple because this story pulls you in and doesn't let you go again.

So don't let reviews keep you from reading the last piece of this series. I think everyone needs to make up their own mind about this last part of the series.

Thank you for reading!!
